The Coathangers’ excellent new album, Larceny & Old Lace is out today in North America. You can hear the album in its entirety all week long via Spinner’s Listening Party stream, as well as watch the video for lead single “Hurricane,” which made its Video of the Day feature (June 6).
There are some great reviews for Larceny & Old Lace that dropped this week including Pitchfork, Passion of the Weiss, Exclaim, The Onion AV Club, and Stomp & Stammer. There is also a great interview over at eMusic today where Julia Kugel talks about inspiration for Larceny & Old Lace, covering a wide range of topics from serial killers to her love of the Golden Girls. Awwwww.
Larceny & Old Lace is starting to impact at college radio with a Top 10 add with CMJ reporters and seeing early spins at KFAI, KSJS, KTSW, KTUH, KUOM, KVCU, KVRX, KUCI, WKDU, WNYU, WXCI, KXLU, KEXP, KCRW, and WWUH.
The Coathangers have also scheduled a massive tour in support of Larceny & Old Lace. From June 19 – July 3 and July 14 – August 2, the band will embark on a major US tour which includes a festival appearance at Iowa City’s Firecracker 500. There will be additional confirmations shortly. The tour will be preceded by a few shows in their hometown – an all ages in-store on June 8 at Criminal Records (tomorrow) and a 21 and over CD release show June 18 at Highland Ballroom. Additionally, 21 and over fans attending the June 8th in-store that purchase the album will receive a guest list spot for June 18 Highland Ballroom show.
