Suicide Squeeze Records is thrilled to announce the next installment in its ongoing singles series. On December 6 the label will release This Will Destroy You’s “Black Dunes” in North America as a limited edition 7" single in multiple colors (100 each of the following: clear, white, lavender, opaque pink, and translucent gold) and at all DSPs. The single features an edit of “Black Dunes” (the original version appears on the band’s third album + Suicide Squeeze debut, Tunnel Blanket) along with a remix of the song from Holy Other (“Woman In the Dunes” mix). Additionally, the single will also see a release on December 5 in the UK & Europe via Monotreme Records and will be available as a limited edition run of 500 and in multiple colors (black, clear/black and white/black version). Track listing + release details below.
The Fader premiered “Black Dunes (Holy Other’s Woman In The Dunes mix)” today (October 6), and had this to say: “Maybe Holy Other felt that his remix of This Will Destroy You’s "Black Dunes” was so divorced from the original, that he needed to semi-retitle it. Or maybe he just went on a Hiroshi Teshigahara bender (c/o Criterion Collection)? Either way, we are with him on this one. He takes all the clashing bleakness of TWDY’s original, and inserts some feminine sensuality (in the form of a woman’s looping vocal ooh ooh ooh) into an equally brooding landscape.“
On the live front, This Will Destroy You have a very special show to mention: on November 18, the band will headline the Granada Theatre in Dallas, TX– more info about the show here.
In other news, This Will Destroy You’s ”The Mighty Rio Grande“ (from the band’s self-titled second album) is prominently featured in the film and trailer for the critically acclaimed film Moneyball.
About This Will Destroy You: The band began in earnest during the mid-00’s in San Marcos, TX. In many ways, the initial sound of the band was the logical destination point for four friends (Christopher Royal King, Jeremy Galindo, Raymond Brown, and Andrew Miller) that had been playing in a variety of bands together throughout their teens. In 2005, the group began writing and recording what was intended to be a simple 6-song documentation of where they were at musically (read more here).
About Suicide Squeeze Singles Series: In 1996, Suicide Squeeze began releasing 7-inch records as lifesblood, singles, mostly from Pacific NW bands appeared, documenting some of the most influential music of that time: Modest Mouse, Elliott Smith, 764-Hero, and Pedro the Lion: each played an important role. The label broadened its reach over the years (as well as its series of singles), continually releasing music by a diverse, yet select group of musicians, including The Melvins, of Montreal, HEALTH, Black Mountain, Dirty Beaches, Memoryhouse, and many more.
