“The band makes unexpected dynamic
pushes seem easy to pull off and easier to internalize as a listener,
but on first listen, each comes as a surprise. This Will Destroy You
don’t write obvious songs and are at their best when they’re being loud,
with guitars soaring, the drums frantic but maintaining a precise,
plaintive mood amid the chaos. Sometimes, as a new song begins, the band
gives off the feeling of someone picking themselves up, smacking the
dust off their pants, and starting over again..” Pitchfork
San-Marcos quartet This Will Destroy You have this week announced a run of North American tour dates, kicking off March 12th at VIVA PHX Festival in Phoenix, AZ and taking them to LA, San Francisco, Seattle, and more. The tour wraps up at On The Map Festival in Fayetteville, AR.
The Dallas Observer has commented on the band’s spectacular live show, saying, “When
translating the recordings to a live show, it’s paramount that the band
is playing to the highest level. With no singer grabbing the majority
of the audience’s attention, each band member holds a huge
responsibility for the sound. And with that great responsibility comes
great power in both the range of sound and the emotions it taps into.” Boston Globe says “Blending
the intensity of doom metal with the fragility of shoegaze, the music
burns slowly, shifting from ambient to turbulent and back”
Late last year, The Creators Project premiered This Will Destroy You’s newest music video for “Mother Opiate” off of their critically acclaimed 2014 album Another Language. They noted, “Mountains and moons morph into eyes and
mandalas, creating a kind of line-contour map of the cosmos. Not one
that tells you where to go, per se, but rather, how to find it. It’s a
gentle reminder that communication doesn’t always have to be verbal, a
possible clue into the ever-enigmatic band’s album title: Another Language.”
