To celebrate the 17th anniversary of Menos el Oso, we’re repressing on two new colorways! This edition is limited to 1500 copies (500 on translucent green – Minus the Bear exclusive, 1k on opaque pink). The album comes in a gatefold jacket with a matte finish and UV gloss. It includes a printed inner sleeve with expanded liner notes about the creation of the record provided by longtime friend of the band Brian Cook (Russian Circles, These Arms Are Snakes) and includes quotes and insights from the members themselves.
“The intricately woven guitars and propulsive beats that anchor Menos El Oso aren’t just “math rock” exercises, they’re a vital mode of expression, tracing the modern worry that the individual is being slowly absorbed by religion, government, corporations, or something more sinister.” – THE ONION
“A steady rhythm section flows beneath Jake Snider’s sturdy vocals while Dave Knudson’s staccato guitar compositions lightly dance on the surface, consistently adding both a vibrant beauty and an anxious energy to the music.” – THE STRANGER
“[Minus The Bear’s] intricate guitar work and shimmering atmospherics supporting longing lyrics dealing lost love, exotic travel, and pastoral landscapes prove why they are likely the next Seattle indie-rock band to go stratospheric.“ – FILTER MAGAZINE
“The song titles have become less arbitrary, but in most other ways Menos El Oso plays like Minus the Bear’s previous three albums: loaded with odd guitar polyrhythms and windy tales about traveling, drinking, girls and all-purpose ennui. Given the familiar template, it seems odd the song titles should matter much, but they signal a new, unexpectedly mature outlook that gives the record its consistently engaging feel.” – MAGNET MAGAZINE
