Seattle institutions Chastity Belt and 764-Hero split a 7″ for Suicide Squeeze Records. The physical is out August 15, 2025, and today you can hear Chastity Belt’s cover of the 764-Hero classic “Loaded Painted Red” pushing the emo original into vaster terrain. Jangly chords crest over straight ahead, albeit jazzy drums. “And you’ll never see Venus / Ever again like this / And you’re wondering why / And you gotta be clear / When you’re talking to a kid / This is one of those times,” Julia Shapiro sings in a lilted voice on the opening lines, the song disintegrating into and of reverberant guitar solos. “Loaded Painted Red” was initially released by 764-Hero in 1998, on the album Get Here and Stay, and this 7″ captures a magic that blossoms when two generations of Pacific Northwest indie rock torchbearers melt into one another.

On the split, Julia Shapiro of Chastity Belt shares: I’ve been a fan of 764-Hero for a while now, and ‘Loaded Painted Red’ is one of my faves! It was hard to do the song justice, because the original is so perfect, but we also had fun reimagining it and making it our own… our first ever recorded cover!”

On the split, John Atkins of 764-Hero shares: “I was so happy hearing the Chastity Belt version of ‘Loaded Painted Red.’ I’m a big fan of them as a band and as people and their rendition really moved me. I feel very lucky to be linked with Polly and James and David and Chastity Belt and this is a memento I will cherish.”
