“From Menos el Oso, I’ve learned to see the beauty in the pangs of longing, in the pressures of work, in the fear of loss. After all, “this is the difference between living and not living.” – The Line of Best Fit
“…crisp, calculated, and linear.” – Alternative Press
“…a near-perfect album that found Minus the Bear operating at the absolute top of their game.” – Brooklyn Vegan
“The intricately woven guitars and propulsive beats that anchor Menos el Oso aren’t just “math rock” exercises, they’re a vital mode of expression, tracing the modern worry that the individual is being slowly absorbed? by religion, government, corporations, or something more sinister.” – AV Club
“A steady rhythm section flows beneath Jake Snider’s sturdy vocals while Dave Knudson’s staccato guitar compositions lightly dance on the surface, consistently adding both a vibrant beauty and an anxious energy to the music.” – The Stranger
Formed in Seattle, WA at the turn of the millennium, and founded by a veritable who’s-who of local musicians, Minus the Bear burst onto the alternative rock scene in the waning days of nineties burn-out, and at the birth of the early-aughts indie revival, bringing forth a unique and singular blend, fusing the previous decade’s forward-thinking math rock guitar gymnastics with the new century’s poptimist pulse and technological adventurism.
Today, the band are excited to announce that they will be headlining Best Friends Forever in Las Vegas, NV this October, and performing their seminal 2005 album, Menos el Oso, in its entirety. The band hasn’t performed live since 2018.
Additionally, the band are thrilled to share they’ve signed on with a new full-service management agency, Do Better For Artists, with Jordyn Reese. Speaking on the partnership, Reese states “Minus The Bear has been a cult favorite and pioneering force in independent rock for over two decades, and it’s an absolute honor to be part of this next chapter with them. Their ability to push creative boundaries while staying true to their artistry is exactly what Do Better For Artists stands for. This reunion isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about reintroducing MTB’s legacy to both longtime fans and a new generation. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”
Minus the Bear’s Dave Knudson said “Vision, enthusiasm and drive are the most important qualities you can find in a manager and Jordyn has been gifted all three in spades. While working together on my first solo LP I found her love of music and strategy intoxicating. Having a long history with MTB, she seemed like the perfect choice to bring ideas and energy to our reunion.”
David Dickenson, founder of Suicide Squeeze Records which has been the home of the band for twenty years, says “I first discovered Jordyn and Do Better For Artists through her work on David Knudson’s solo album, and I became an instant fan. Her passion and commitment are evident in everything she does, and I’m beyond excited to collaborate with her on Minus the Bear. I’m confident this partnership will open up new, exciting opportunities for the band.“
Minus the Bear Bio:
Across the span of eighteen years, six full-lengths, and an array of singles and EP, the band traversed a broad swathe of sonic territories, seamlessly jumping from brainy indie pop to glitchy dance-punk to ambitious prog rock, all while retaining their signature blend of celebratory swagger with a pensive and reflective patina. Fueled by guitarist David Knudson’s fingertapping dexterity and pedalboard wizardy, vocalist/guitarist Jake Snider’s wistful and poignant depictions of adulthood escapades, multi-instrumentalist Alex Rose’s lush synth layers, and bassist Cory Murchy’s nimble groove, Minus the Bear created a body of work that cemented their place as one of modern indie rock’s most distinctive and influential acts.
Though Minus the Bear toured extensively across Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia, they were mainly known as an absolute juggernaut on the North American circuit, where they routinely sold-out theaters from coast to coast. Their final US tour was documented on the posthumously released live album Farewell, which captured not only the fiery and flawless execution of their most beloved material, but also the fervent enthusiasm of their devoted fanbase. The band dissolved at the end of 2018 as the responsibilities in their private lives took precedence over the rigorous demands of being in a full-time band.
