Today Austin, Texas subterranean pop mainstays Holy Wave share “dewey’s dirge,” the second single from their forthcoming album i’m DADA, out July 10, 2026. Unfolding through shifting tempos, dissolving melodies, and abrupt tonal turns, the track captures the strange vertigo of watching a familiar world transform into something unrecognizable. The arrangement’s subtle fluctuations mimic the rapid degradation around us. The band are also set to tour North America and UK/EU starting next month.
On the single, Holy Wave’s Ryan Fuson shares: “’dewey’s dirge’ is as much a song about things changing as it is about wanting to change them. It’s about wishing you knew a world long gone, and at times, resenting those who were part of it. We wanted the different parts of the song to reflect the lyrical content of each section, which is why there are tempo changes and major tonal shifts. In my head, I imagined being in this perfect time and place, only to watch it become hellish without a moment’s notice. I wanted to make a song that felt like that.”
