Over several decades, Michael Nau has developed a sun faded strain of indie folk. His new full-length, Popfly, is out October 23, 2026. Today, premiering via FLOOD Magazine, he shares the second single, “New Slack,” which was fine tuned in a drive way jam session. Lyrics about a search for answers crest over funky drums and delicate woodwinds. It strikes a breezy, yet bittersweet tone.

On the single, Michael Nau shares: “the earliest memory i have of this song is playing it in the tailgate of benny’s volvo – benny on bass, & oliver playing sax. benny would send me that phone memo a lot over the next couple years. it only made sense to record it for this album. (oliver sax, benny bass)”
